Symptoms:

• Grey coloured nest structure found hanging in garden shrub
• Grey structure found in attic
• Bees around chimney
• Bees / Wasps going into air-brick
• Bees / Wasps going into hole in ground
• Bees going into holes in mortar
• Bees going into small holes in lawn
• Large wasp type insect seen on a tan coloured nest
• Emerging sluggish queen wasps found

Bees

Bees can be dealt with as a potential danger to the householder although ideally should be left alone as they do far more good than harm and numbers are depleted.

‘Swarms’ of bees are often able to be collected by bee keepers and a swarm although sometimes intimidating is usually fairly harmless and temporarily resting before moving off again.

Mortar bees may cause some concern to the householder but can be dealt with easily. Other types such as mining-bees are completely harmless and of no concern as any kind of pest.

Wasps & Hornets

Wasp numbers fluctuate from year to year & hornets while previously rare are now relatively common. Hornets are found in fewer numbers per nest than wasps but scare people often because of their size.

It is never a good idea to attempt a DIY treatment of these insects.

They are professionally dealt with by proper application of knock-down type liquid application.

The pest controller will have the tools and protective clothing to do this and the experience that comes with many years of practice to ‘read’ how the nest is reacting and any measures to take.
